"The Nephilim were on
the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of
men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown." Genesis
6:4
Genesis 6:4 leaves us with
a haunting, almost chilling three words, "...and also afterward", could the
Nephilim have survived the flood? Could this strange being produced from the union of
fallen angels and earthly women, a hybrid race called the Nephilim or "fallen
ones", still be around? According to Genesis 6:4, they were still around after the
flood.
After the flood we find
that the Bible mentions several occurrences of "giants" appearing, specifically
the giant-races of Canaan. Actually the Bible mentions a number of such tribes: the
Rephaim, the Emim, the Horim, and Zamsummim, that were giants.
"The Emites used to
live there--a people strong and numerous, and as tall as the Anakites. Like the Anakites,
they too were considered Rephaites, but the Moabites called them Emites. Horites used to
live in Seir, but the descendants of Esau drove them out. They destroyed the Horites from
before them and settled in their place, just as Israel did in the land the LORD gave them
as their possession." Deuteronomy 12:10-12
The Kingdom of Og, the King of
Bashan, was the "land of the giants".
"Only Og king of Bashan was left of
the remnant of the Rephaites. His bed was made of iron and was more than thirteen feet
long and six feet wide. It is still in Rabbah of the Ammonites." Deuteronomy 3:11
"That is, the whole
kingdom of Og in Bashan, who had reigned in Ashtaroth and Edrei and had survived as one of
the last of the Rephaites. Moses had defeated them and taken over their land." Joshua
13:12
We also find Arba:
"Hebron used to be called Kiriath
Arba after Arba, who was the greatest man among the Anakites." Joshua 4:15
Anak, and his seven sons (the "Anakim") also as
giants, along with the famed Goliath and his four brothers.
"A champion named
Goliath, who was from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. He was over nine feet tall.
He had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing five
thousand shekels ; on his legs he wore bronze greaves, and a bronze javelin was slung on
his back. His spear shaft was like a weaver's rod, and its iron point weighed six hundred
shekels. His shield bearer went ahead of him." 1 Samuel 17:4-7
"And Ishbi-Benob, one
of the descendants of Rapha, whose bronze spearhead weighed three hundred shekels and who
was armed with a new sword, said he would kill David. But Abishai son of Zeruiah came to
David's rescue; he struck the Philistine down and killed him. Then David's men swore to
him, saying, "Never again will you go out with us to battle, so that the lamp of
Israel will not be extinguished." In the course of time, there was another battle
with the Philistines, at Gob. At that time Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Saph, one of the
descendants of Rapha. In another battle with the Philistines at Gob, Elhanan son of
Jaare-Oregim the Bethlehemite killed Goliath the Gittite, who had a spear with a shaft
like a weaver's rod. In still another battle, which took place at Gath, there was a huge
man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot--twenty-four in all. He also
was descended from Rapha. When he taunted Israel, Jonathan son of Shimeah, David's
brother, killed him. These four were descendants of Rapha in Gath, and they fell at the
hands of David and his men. 2 Samuel 17:16-22
Sort of puts the story of
"David and Goliath" in a whole new light when you realize that Goliath was a
Nephilim and that he had four brothers. When God had revealed to Abraham that the land of
Canaan was to be given to him, Satan had over 400 years to plant his "mine
field" of Nephilim!
When Moses sent his twelve
spies to reconnoiter the Land of Canaan, they came back with the report of giants in the
land. (The term used was Nephilim.)
"We saw the Nephilim
there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our
own eyes, and we looked the same to them." Numbers 13:33
Their fear of those terrifying
creatures resulted in their being relegated to wandering in the wilderness for 38 years.
When Joshua and the nation
Israel later entered the land of Canaan, they were instructed to wipe out every man, woman
and child of certain tribes.
"They devoted the
city to the LORD and destroyed with the sword every living thing in it--men and women,
young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys." Joshua 6:21
It would seem that in the
Land of Canaan, there again was a "gene pool problem." These Rephaim, Nephilim,
and others seem to have been established as an advance guard to obstruct Israel's
possession of the Promised Land. Was this also a Satan's plan?
"And as it
was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man." Luke
17:26
So what does Luke 17:26
really mean?
"And there shall be
signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of
nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for
fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth:
for the powers of heaven shall be shaken." Luke 21:25,26
What things are coming
upon the earth? Is it possible that the Bible is referring to UFO's and their occupants?
Could this be part of the End-Time scenario called the "Great Deception"? Are
the Nephilim involved and present today?
